Petr Cech has put his future at Chelsea in serious doubt after telling reports today that he isn’t prepared to stay at Stamford Bridge as a No.2 next season.

The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea keeper Petr Cech looks like he could be leaving this summer….

Petr Cech has put his future at Chelsea in serious doubt after telling reports today that he isn’t prepared to stay at Stamford Bridge as a No.2 next season.

Cech has been at Chelsea for over ten years since joining the club from Rennes in 2004 and up until this season, he was a regular fixture in the Blues starting eleven and played a key role in winning a number of honours including three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.

However, the 32-year-old has been relegated to the bench for much of this campaign after Jose Mourinho named Thibaut Courtois as his No.1 after the Belgian youngster impressed while on loan at Ateltico Madrid.

Mourinho has done his best to keep Cech happy, handing 14 starts including in the Capital One Cup final, but it doesn’t look like it’s been enough to pacify the Czech international as he’s now been quoted as telling reporters that he doesn’t want to spend another year as a No.2 and will hold talks with Chelsea at the end of the season to come to a solution.

“I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo,”

“But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this.”

“There always will be speculation, I leave it for the summer,”

“It will be important to sit down with the club, with the manager, to consider all the pros and cons. We will see what will work out the best.” Cech is quoted as saying by the Express

It’s understandable that a player of Cech’s ability isn’t prepared to sit on the bench and it was always going to be an impossible task for Mourinho to keep him and Courtois happy this season.

The Portuguese coach has already hinted that he won’t stand in Cech’s way if he asks to leave this summer, and that seems almost a certainty following his most recent comments.

There won’t be any shortage of takers with Arsenal and Liverpool two of the clubs who have been strongly linked with a move for the Czech stopper in recent months, and they are sure to be watching on with interest ahead of the summer.

Arsene Wenger axed Wojciech Szczesny as his first choice back in January and if he doesn’t regain his place over the coming weeks then I suspect he could be on the move this summer leaving the Gunners with a void to fill.

Simon Mignolet has regained something like his best form in recent weeks but Brendan Rodgers is still likely to assess his goalkeeping options at the end of the season, and I’m sure both he and Wenger would jump at the chance if they could sign a player of Cech’s quality and experience.

The big question mark would be whether Mourinho and Chelsea would be willing to sell to a direct domestic rival but that’s a question that can only be answered in the summer, so we’ll have to see how things develop over the coming months.
