The future of Angel Di Maria has been cast into further doubt with reports claiming that he had a furious bust-up with boss Louis van Gaal following Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

Di Maria returned to the squad for the trip to Anfield last weekend after serving a one-match ban following his sending off against Arsenal in the FA Cup earlier this month.

The Argentinean international was only named among the substitutes against Liverpool as van Gaal went with the same eleven that had beaten Tottenham the previous week but he was introduced for Ashley Young in the 55th minute.

However, despite Di Maria supplying a lovely assist for Juan Mata’s eventual winner and providing the pass that led to a late penalty, it seems van Gaal was less than impressed with the winger’s contribution.

The Mirror claim that the Dutch boss blasted Di Maria in the dressing room after the game for his lack of work-rate and selfish attitude, and they suggest that it was the Argentine that van Gaal was alluding to when he criticised United’s second half display.

The United boss said after the game on Sunday:

“In the second-half everything is changing because of [Steven Gerrard’s] red and then we are not anymore playing like a team,” he said.

“We are running with the ball, unnecessary losses of the ball, so that was not so good.”

The news of a bust-up has added to the uncertainty over Di Maria’s future as reports in recent days have suggested that he’s keen to leave Old Trafford this summer after a frustrating first season in England.

The former Real Madrid attacker started brightly following his £59.7m move last summer but his form has dipped drastically in recent weeks and some have suggested he’s not comfortable following a break-in at his mansion earlier this year.

Di Maria certainly looks low on confidence and a dressing down from your manager isn’t exactly going to help in that respect, so I personally wouldn’t be surprised if he looked for a move at the end of the season.
