[Video Goals] Arsenal 4-1 Liverpool: Giroud Stunner Seals Vital Win For Gunners

By on April 4, 2015

Arsenal moved up to second in the Premier League table with a 4-1 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates this afternoon.

After both sides had missed some great early opportunities, the Gunners opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Hector Bellerin was allowed to find his way into the box and he curled home a wonderful left-footed strike for 1-0.

The hosts doubled their advantage just minutes later when Mesut Ozil made it 2-0 with a stunning free-kick and the hosts were in command when Alexis Sanchez smashed home the third from the edge of the area.

Liverpool were gifted a lifeline when Bellerin brought down Raheem Sterling in the area in the 77th minute. David Ospina got a hand to Jordan Henderson’s penalty but was unable to keep it out so it was 3-1 with just over 10 minutes left.

However, any chance of a late comeback was dented when Emre Can got sent off and Arsenal secured the win with an excellent late strike from Olivier Giroud.

The win moves the Gunners up into second position while Liverpool now have a mountain to climb in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.
