Manchester City are eyeing audacious moves for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson as part of a £60m+ double swoop this summer, according to reports today.

The soon-to-be deposed Premier League champions are gearing up for a busy summer in the transfer market and they know that signing English talent is going to have to be a priority.

City are in danger of falling short of their quota of home-grown players with Frank Lampard and James Milner set to leave the club at the end of the season while the Citizens also want more English players in their side, with Joe Hart regularly the only one named in the starting eleven this season.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Manuel Pellegrini has already started to draw-up a list of realistic targets and has identified Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson as two players he feels are attainable this summer.

Wilshere has endured yet another injury-plagued season at Arsenal and although he’s now closing in on full fitness after missing over four months with an ankle problem, the 23-year-old may find it difficult to force his way back into Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.

With the midfielder having just over two years left on his current deal at the Emirates, it seems City feel they have a chance of luring him away from the Emirates this summer but the Daily Mail suggest it would take a bid in excess of £30m to tempt the Gunners into cashing in.

However, I personally don’t see Wilshere leaving Arsenal just yet. He came through the youth system having joined the club as a nine-year-old and despite his injury worries, I don’t see either party looking to end their relationship before he’s been able to fulfill his full potential in North London.

Henderson’s situation at Liverpool is a little more precarious though as he is about to enter the final year of his deal and while Brendan Rodgers appears confident that an extension will be signed, no agreement has been found as yet.

The 24-year-old has become an integral part of Liverpool’s starting eleven this season so no doubt they will be desperate to keep hold of him, but they will have a real decision to make if nothing is signed by the end of the season and City come in with a formal bid.

Once again, the Mail feel it would take at least £30m to tempt Liverpool and if City do offer that kind of money for a player who has just one year left on his deal, then the Merseysiders may be forced to cash-in rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2016.

However, in the end, I think Henderson will commit his long-term future to Anfield and sign an extension over the coming weeks. He seems settled at the club, has been installed as vice-captain and is the natural successor to Steven Gerrard. He won’t get that kind of responsibility at City, so I can see him staying at Liverpool this summer.
