By on May 2, 2015

Steven Gerrard scored a late winner as Liverpool beat 10-man Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Anfield this afternoon.

The Reds opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Philippe Coutinho curled home a superb right-footed effort after being found by Gerrard in the area.

QPR then levelled things up in the 73rd minute when Leroy Fer volleyed home from a Joey Barton corner to make it 1-1 before the hosts were gifted the perfect opportunity to restore their lead minutes later when Onouha hauled down Skrtel in the area.

Gerrard saw the resulting spot kick saved by Rob Green but after Onouha was sent to the stands for a second yellow card in the 82nd minute, Liverpool took advantage of their extra man as Gerrard headed home the winner with 5 minutes remaining.

The win sees Liverpool close the gap on fourth-placed Manchester United to four points ahead of their clash with West Brom this evening.
