Man Utd To Make £20m Bid For Chelsea Target, Player Has His Heart Set On OT Move
Manchester United are ready to make a formal £20m offer to Southampton for Nathaniel Clyne with the right-back understood to have his heart set on the move
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are ready to make their move for Nathaniel Clyne…..
Manchester United are ready to make a formal £20m offer to Southampton for Nathaniel Clyne with the right-back understood to have his heart set on the move, according to reports.
Clyne is set to enter the final year of his Saints contract and with no new extension agreed as yet, the defender is expected to leave St Mary’s Stadium this summer at they wont want to let him walk away for nothing in 12 months time.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent months while reports have also suggested that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on his situation ahead of a potential summer swoop.
However, following media reports last week that United had stolen a march on Chelsea after informing Southampton of their interest in Clyne, it appears the 20-time champions are set to step-up their interest even further.
The Daily Star claim that United are now ready to table a formal £20m offer to Ronald Koeman’s men after being snubbed by Dani Alves – who’s set to sign a new deal at Barcelona.
Louis van Gaal has made a new right-back one of his priorities this summer as Rafael has struggled for form and fitness while Antonio Valencia has been forced to deputise in an unfamiliar position, and the Dutch boss was believed to be eyeing Alves as a potential addition.
However, with the Brazilian set to stay at the Nou Camp, the newspaper suggests that United have now set their sights firmly on Clyne and the player is understood to have his heart set on moving to Old Trafford.
It’s difficult to know how much truth there is behind these reports but the closer we get to the end of the season with Clyne still not signing an extension, the more likely it looks like he’ll be on the move and United appear to be in pole position.
I’m sure if Chelsea really wanted him then Jose Mourinho wouldn’t give up without a fight but with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic already on the books, I can’t see why another right-back would be high on the Portuguese coaches agenda this summer.
United on the other hand are desperate for a top class right-back and Clyne has now established himself as one of the best in the Premier League and he’s also now Roy Hodgson’s No.1 choice for the national team, so I think he’d be an excellent addition.
