Oscar has taken to Twitter this afternoon to confirm he’s picked up an injury and will not only miss Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool this weekend but has also ruled him out of the Copa America next month.

Oscar has been a regular under Brazilian coach Dunga since he returned as manager and was expected to play a central role in their side during this summers Copa America in Chile.

However, Blues boss Jose Mourinho has informed Dunga that the playmaker will not be fit in time to take part the tournament – which starts on 11 June – after suffering an injury in training.

‘Oscar got an injury in his last training session with Chelsea, we spoke with (Chelsea manager Jose) Mourinho and the doctor at Chelsea and his recuperation will take time and he won’t be at his best during the Copa America,’ Dunga told reporters today.

‘After the Copa America we have the World Cup qualifiers, and we thought it best for him to be ready for the qualifiers.’

Oscar has now taken to his official Twitter account to confirm the news, posting a message that translates to say: ‘I am very sad for not playing for my country in the Copa America because of an injury. Thank you all for caring.’

The 23-year-old was left out of the squad that beat Crystal Palace on Sunday so it appears he may have picked up the problem – which is believed to be a muscular injury – during training last week.

Oscar will now miss Sunday’s clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and if he won’t be fit for the Copa America, he’s unlikely to feature for Chelsea again this season.

The newly-crowned Premier League champions should cope without him but the news will come as a blow to Brazil as they look to make-up for their disastrous World Cup. However, Chelsea team-mates Willian and Filipe Luis have been named in the squad along with Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
