Arsenal and Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech with Real Madrid now eyeing a move for the want-away stopper this summer, according to reports.

Cech is expected to end his 11-year association with Chelsea this summer after losing his first team place to Belgian international Thibaut Courtois.

Jose Mourinho has done his best to try and keep the 32-year-old happy but he’s made just six Premier League appearances this season and Cech has admitted he’s not prepared to play second-fiddle to Courtois again next year.

Understandably there is no shortage of interest in the Czech international’s services with Arsenal and Liverpool both believed to have registered their interest, while French champions PSG are also reportedly keen.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is expected to bring in another goalkeeper this summer to replace Wojciech Szczesny with the Polish youngster likely to leave North London after losing his place back in January.

Despite Simon Mignolet’s improved form in recent months, Liverpool are also expected to be in the market for another No.1 with Brendan Rodgers desperate to build a squad capable of breaking into the to four next season.

Cech would be a superb addition for either club but it looks as though they will now face stiff competition from Real Madrid with the Sun reporting that the European champions will move for the Blues keeper if they are unable to sign David De Gea.

Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal admits that he could lose his No.1 this summer but if De Gea snubs a return to Spain in favour of signing a new deal at Old Trafford, then the Sun believe that Madrid will turn their attention to Cech.

That would spell bad news for Arsenal and Liverpool as Chelsea would surely rather do business with a foreign club than sell Cech to a direct domestic rival, so there is a lot riding on the future of De Gea for several clubs.

However, I have a feeling that the Spanish international will end up moving to the Bernabeu which should leave Arsenal and Liverpool to battle-it-out for Cech – although I wouldn’t rule out United targetring the experienced stopper as a replacement for De Gea if he does head to Madrid.

It’s going to be fascinating to see where Cech ends up but one thing is for sure and that’s whoever wins the race for his signature will be getting a world class keeper.
