Chelsea Pushing Ahead With €60m Deal For 25-Goal Attacker

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are pushing ahead with a deal for Antoine Griezmann….

Chelsea are pushing ahead with a deal to try and sign €60m-rated Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to reports today.

Griezmann burst onto the scene in the 2013/14 season when his 20 goals in 49 appearances for Real Sociedad earned him a big-money move to Atletico Madrid last summer.

The 24-year-old has continued his excellent form for Diego Simeone’s side with the Frenchman scoring 25 goals and providing a further 6 assists in his 53 appearances.

His impressive displays have led to interest from clubs throughout Europe with the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich strongly linked with a move for the attacker this summer.

Reports last month claimed that Jose Mourinho was placed on red-alert after learning Griezmann had a €60m (£43m) buy-out clause in his contract and the Blues boss was supposedly contemplating his next move.

Well it seems the Portuguese coach is ready to formalise his interest as the Metro are citing reports coming out of Spain that claim Chelsea are pressing ahead with their attempts to try and lure Griezmann to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The newspaper suggests that Atletico are desperate to keep hold of Griezmann and will demand the full value of his buy-out clause, but there is very little they can do to prevent the French international leaving if the Premier League champions meet that figure.

Despite cruising to a League and Cup double last season, it seems Moutinho is keen to further strengthen his squad ahead of an assault on the Champions League next year and Griezmann would be a sensational signing if they could pull it off.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the West Londoners will be prepared to pay the €60m required to activate his exit, but I have no doubt Griezmann would be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad if they can get a deal agreed this summer.
