Chelsea Open Formal Talks Over Move For Man Utd Flop, Mourinho Keen On Deal

Chelsea have opened talks over a deal to sign Man Utd flop Radamel Falcao with Jose Mourinho understood to be keen on taking the Colombian to West London

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with Radamel Falcao….

Colombia Radamel Falcao

Chelsea have opened formal talks over a potential deal to sign Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao this summer with Jose Mourinho understood to be keen on taking the Colombian to West London, according to reports.

Falcao has just come off the back of a disappointing debut season in the Premier League after scoring just 4 goals in 29 appearances during his year-long loan spell at Manchester United from AS Monaco.

Therefore, it came as no surprise when Louis van Gaal confirmed after United’s 0-0 draw at Hull City on the final day of the season that he had rejected the chance to sign the striker on a permanent basis.

However, it appears Falcao’s future could still be in England as Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is claiming this evening that Chelsea have now opened formal talks about a potential deal for the Colombian hitman.

Di Marzio suggests that Falcao is now a ‘concrete’ target for the Premier League champions and boss Jose Mourinho is supposedly keen to get a deal thrashed out to take the striker to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The news come after reports earlier this week suggested that Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes – who also represents Mourinho – was ready to sound-out Chelsea about the possibility of signing his client, and it appears that contact has now been made and met with a positive response.

A potential stumbling block over any deal could be the 29-year-old’s £265,000-a-week wages, but the Mirror suggest that Falcao is prepared to take a hefty pay-cut in order to secure a move to Chelsea.

We’ll have to see how this all develops over the coming days but it would be something of a shock if Chelsea do decide to sign Falcao given his disastrous season at United.

However, the Colombian was once regarded as one of the deadliest finishers in the game and with 200 goals in 305 career games, it’s clear he knows where the goal is, so if Mourinho can get his confidence and fitness back up to scratch, perhaps we may see the best of Falcao in the Premier League next season.

If he can re-discoverer his form in front of goal, Chelsea would have a potent strike-force as they already have Diego Costa on the books, and it would take something special to stop them reclaiming their title again next year.
