Arsenal Eyeing Move For €35m Midfield Powerhouse

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Geoffrey Kondogbia with Monaco ready to cash in on the midfielder if their €35m asking price is met this summer

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Geoffrey Kondogbia….

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Geoffrey Kondogbia with Monaco ready to cash in on the midfielder if their €35m asking price is met this summer, according to reports.

Kondogbia has developed into one of the finest young midfield talents in European football since joining Monaco from Sevilla in the summer of 2013 and he’s now a regular in the French senior national squad.

The 23-year-old put in an outstanding performance at the Emirates during Monaco’s 3-1 win in the Champions League last season and it led to speculation of a big-money move to one of Europe’s top clubs this summer.

Wenger is widely expected to bring in another holding midfielder this summer with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby all facing uncertain futures and up until this point, Morgan Schneiderlin was understood to be the bosses top target.

However, with the Southampton man strongly linked with a move to Manchester United this past week, it seems Arsene is ready to turn his attention to Kondogbia with the Telegraph claiming we’re eyeing a move for the powerful midfielder.

We’re not the only club on the case as the newspaper suggests that Inter Milan are also keen to sign the Frenchman, but we have a good chance of luring him to the Emirates if we meet his reported €35m (£25m) asking price.

That’s a similar price to what Schneiderlin is expected to cost and I’d personally love to see either player join Arsenal this summer. Schneiderlin has been outstanding for Southampton over the past 24 months and he has Premier League experience, so in some ways he’s be the ‘safer’ choice.

But Kondogbia has the potential to be a special talent and he’d give us a real physical presence in the middle of the park, so he’d be an exciting alternative if Wenger manages to pull off a deal.
