Man Utd Offer Chelsea Target £8.5m-A-Year Deal After Holding Talks With Agent

Manchester United have held talks with the agent of Chelsea target Sergio Ramos and are willing to offer the unsettled Real Madrid ace £8.5m-a-season.

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos….

Manchester United have held talks with the agent of Sergio Ramos and are willing to use David De Gea as part exchange to land the unsettled Real Madrid defender, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Ramos has just completed his tenth season at Madrid and has enjoyed an illustrious career at that Bernabeu that’s seen him win 3 La Liga titles and 1 Champions League trophy.

But the defenders future has been cast in doubt in recent months as talks over a new deal have stalled and the players agent, Rene Ramos, was quoted in the press earlier this month as saying they are yet to hear back from Madrid about an extension.

The uncertainty has led to speculation over a move to the Premier League with the Express claiming that Manchester United and Chelsea are among the clubs who are showing a keen interest in the Spanish international this summer.

It appears United have already stolen a march on their rivals as outlet AS are reporting today that the Red Devils held talks with Ramos’s representatives at a London hotel back in April and have made it clear they are willing to offer a bumper contract worth £8.5m-per-season.

The Spanish paper claims that Ramos has decided to leave Madrid as he’s unhappy with how the club have conducted his contract talks and United are now supposedly ready to test their resolve by offering David De Gea plus €30m (£21.5m) in cash in exchange for the centre-back’s signature.

As many of you will be aware, De Gea’s future at Old Trafford is in serious doubt as he’s about to enter the final year of his contract and the Daily Star are one of several newspapers who have suggested in recent months that the keeper is keen on making a move to Madrid this summer.

With no sign of an extension being signed any time soon, it appears United are now ready to use the 24-year-old as bait to land Ramos in what would be a stunning player-plus-cash swap deal if it was to go through.

AS states that while United and Madrid are yet to hold formal talks, negotiations between the two clubs have taken place through intermediaries and the outlet also makes the bold claim that Ramos has been talking English lessons ahead of a potential move to the Premier League.

It’s difficult to know how much truth there is behind these claims as agents often ‘leak’ information to the media to use as leverage in negotiations, so I personally wouldn’t be surprised if Ramos is simply angling for a better deal at Madrid.

However, if there is any chance of him leaving this summer then United, and indeed Chelsea, should be doing all they can to make a deal happen as Ramos would be an excellent signing for any club.

United are in need of a top class centre-back if they want to be challenging for top honours again while Chelsea need to find a long-term replacement for John Terry, and Ramos would be the ideal candidate.

Jose Mourinho knows the player well from their time together at the Bernabeu but the Red Devils could hold the trump card in De Gea, as if Madrid do end up letting Ramos leave then getting the keeper in part exchange would surely be a tempting prospect.

We’ll have to wait and see how it all develops over the comings days but I personally think there’s a lot more chance of seeing Ramos and De Gea lining-up together at Madrid next season than in the red of Manchester United.
