Attacker Wants To Join Chelsea Over Man Utd As Blues Open Talks Over £29m Deal

Man Utd have been dealt a blow as Arda Turan wants to join Chelsea this summer and the Blues have already held talks with his agent over a potential £29m move

As the summer transfer window gets set to open for business, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arda Turan favours a move to Chelsea….

Manchester United have been dealt a transfer blow as Arda Turan wants to join Chelsea this summer and the Blues have already held talks with his agent over a potential £29m move from Atletico Madrid, according to the Daily Mail.

Turan has become one of the most sought-after players of the summer window after his agent was quoted in the press last week as saying that the Turkish international wants to leave Atletico and is keen to try his luck here in the Premier League.

The players agent Ahmet Bulut is quoted as saying by ESPN:

“[Arda] intends to leave Spain this summer,”

“His wish is to leave to play in the Premier League, at this moment that is the path he would like to take to further his career. His exit from Atletico is not something easy, as he has a release clause of €41 million. There are conversations under way with three teams, at the moment I cannot say the names, but they are the best teams in England and European football.”

“It’s true, Milan and PSG are two of the six teams which have shown an interest in him, but the Italian team are not one of his options, as they are not playing in the Champions League. PSG are a possibility, but Arda always wanted to test himself in England.”

Understandably this led to intense speculation suggesting Turan was heading for England with Spanish newspaper AS one of several media outlets claiming that Chelsea and Manchester United are showing a keen interest in signing the 28-year-old.

However, it appears the Blues are now firmly in pole position to secure his signature as the Daily Mail are reporting today that Turan has made it clear he wants to move to Stamford Bridge, with the chance to work under Jose Mourinho particularly appealing to the player.

The newspaper suggests that Chelsea officials have already held talks with Turan’s representatives about a potential move but it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will give the green light to triggering the winger’s €41m (£29m) release clause.

The Portuguese coach has been shrewd with his transfer dealings since returning to West London two years ago and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he decided to use Felipe Luis as a make-weight in any deal in order to reduce the purchase price.

Luis has struggled to establish himself since making the move from Atletico last summer and the Brazilian international may be open to the idea of heading back to the Vicente Calderon in search of regular action, so a player-plus-cash swap deal could suit all parties.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but until a deal is agreed between Atletico and Chelsea, I’m sure Man Utd won’t give up hope of luring Turan to Old Trafford.

The Turkish star would be an excellent signing for either club as he’s been one of Diego Simeone’s stand-out performers in recent years and played a key role in helping them win the La Liga title 12 months ago.

However, as it stands, Chelsea appear to be in pole positon and it will be interesting to see where he fits in if he does move to Stamford Bridge this summer. He’s predominantly played as a right-winger in Spain so he’s likely to be viewed as a potential replacement for Juan Cuadrado, with the Colombian tipped to leave Chelsea after struggling to make an impact following his move in January.
