Arsenal Plot Bid For £20m-Rated Man Utd Target As Wenger Eyes Second Summer Signing
Arsenal have turned their attention to long-term Manchester United target William Carvalho as Arsene Wenger looks to secure his second signing of the summer
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with William Carvalho….
Arsenal have turned their attention to long-term Manchester United target William Carvalho as Arsene Wenger looks to secure his second signing of the summer, according to the Daily Star.
The Gunners boss has just wrapped-up a deal for Czech international goalkeeper Petr Cech but a new holding midfielder looks to be next on his agenda as the French boss tries to build a squad capable of challenging for the title next year.
Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months but with Morgan Schneiderlin expected to move to Old Trafford, it seems Wenger is now eyeing alternative targets.
As the Telegraph report that Arsenal have ended their interest in Arturo Vidal, the Daily Star claim that Wenger has now made William Carvalho his No.1 target and is plotting a bid for the £20m-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
Carvalho is a name that’s constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows with the Express reporting earlier this year that Manchester United had joined the Gunners in making an enquiry for his services back in January.
The Daily Star claim that United are continuing to monitor the 23-year-old but for now it looks like Arsenal are in pole position with the paper suggesting a deal taking him to the Emirates is ‘likely’ this summer.
Wenger needs to bring in another defensive-minded midfielder to compete with Francis Coquelin next season and Carvalho would be an exciting addition for the North Londoners.
The youngster has just enjoyed an excellent tournament at the Under-21 World Cup and despite missing a crucial penalty in last night’s shoot-out defeat to Sweden in the final, the Portuguese starlet was easily one of the stand-out players of the competition.
His impressive form for his country will no doubt increase interest in his signature this summer but I think he’d be a superb signing for Arsenal if they could pull it off over the coming weeks as Carvalho has all the attributes needed to be a huge success here in England.
It remains to be seen whether United will step-up their interest in the player and go head-to-head with Arsenal but with Schneiderlin now looking set for a move to Manchester, Louis van Gaal is unlikely to pursue another holding midfielder.
