Man Utd Agree Deal For £29m Winger But Player Holding Out For Chelsea Move

Manchester United have agreed a deal worth in the region of £29m for Arda Turan but the Atletico Madrid winger is holding out for a move to Chelsea instead

With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, more on the future of Arda Turan….

Manchester United have agreed a deal worth in the region of £29m for Arda Turan but the Atletico Madrid winger is holding out for a move to Chelsea instead, according to the Express.

Turan became one of the most sought after players on the transfer market after his agent Aumet Bulut was quoted in the press last week as saying that the attacker wants to leave Atletico this summer.

Bulut then put a whole host of English clubs on red alert after saying that the Turkish international favoured a move to the Premier League but warned that with a €41m (£29m) release clause in his contract, any potential deal won’t come cheap.

“[Arda] intends to leave Spain this summer,”

“His wish is to leave to play in the Premier League, at this moment that is the path he would like to take to further his career. His exit from Atletico is not something easy, as he has a release clause of €41 million. There are conversations under way with three teams, at the moment I cannot say the names, but they are the best teams in England and European football.”

“It’s true, Milan and PSG are two of the six teams which have shown an interest in him, but the Italian team are not one of his options, as they are not playing in the Champions League. PSG are a possibility, but Arda always wanted to test himself in England.”

Bulut is quoted as saying by ESPN

It wasn’t long before Turan was being linked with a number of English clubs and the Daily Mail reported last week that Chelsea and Manchester United were among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the 28-year-old.

It appears United have now stolen a march on their rivals as the Express are citing Spanish outlet AS who claim that the Red Devils have now reached an agreement to sign the winger from Atletico.

However, the newspaper goes on to state that Turan favours a move to Premier League champions Chelsea and is waiting to hear from Jose Mourinho before sealing any move to Old Trafford.

The Express suggest that if Chelsea do formalise their interest, then they could use reported Atletico target Juan Cuadrado as part of any deal with the Colombian tipped to leave after struggling to make an impact following his move to Stamford Bridge back in January.

There has also been talk of Turan moving to Barcelona in recent days with talkSPORT suggesting it was all but a ‘done deal’, but the player appeared to play down those reports on Twitter yesterday, so his future is still very-much up in the air.

With so much speculation circulating at the minute it’s difficult to know what to believe but I do know that Turan would be an excellent signing for either Chelsea or United if they could pull it off this summer.

The Turkish star has been one of Diego Simeone’s most consistent performers in recent years and played a key role in Atletico reaching the Champions League final and winning the La Liga title in 2014.

He’s mainly a right-winger but is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so he’d certainly give Mourinho or van Gaal plenty of options in the final third if he was to make the move to either club.

Let’s see how this all develops over the coming days but I’d love to see Turan come to England this summer as I think he has all the attributes needed to be a real success here.
