Man Utd Transfer News: Personal Terms Agreed Ahead Of Proposed £14m Move
Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Matteo Darmian and are locked in talks with Torino trying to thrash out a deal that could cost around £14m
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Matteo Darmian….
Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Matteo Darmian and are locked in talks with Torino trying to thrash out a deal for the defender that could cost around £14m, according to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Darmian has developed into one of the best full-backs in Serie A over the past two seasons with his impressive form for Torino also seeing him become a regular in the senior Italian national team set-up with 13 caps to his name so far.
His potential appears to have caught the attention of Louis van Gaal as the Express reported over the weekend that United were showing a keen interest in signing Darmian and had seen their opening £10.5m offer rejected.
However, it looks like United have pressed ahead with the move as Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Red Devils have now agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old defender ahead of his proposed move to Old Trafford.
Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb also cite a report from TuttoSport who suggest that United have made Darmian an offer too good to turn down having put forward a four-year deal worth €2.5m per season, so it certainly seems like an agreement between the player and United is finalised.
All that’s left is to agree a fee with Torino and Di Marzio claims that fresh talks between the two clubs were held last night and the Italians have made it clear they’re willing to close a deal worth €18m up front with a further €2m in add ons.
That makes the proposed deal worth a total of £14m and the Sky Italia journalist suggests that Torino expect to hear back from United today as they close in on their second major signing of the summer.
I expect van Gaal to be busy over the coming weeks as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title with a new right-back likely to be a priority, and it appears Darmian has emerged as the Dutchman’s key target.
The Italian international is known to be an attacking right-back with a great engine and he’s also capable of playing as a wing-back or right midfielder, so he’d give van Gaal plenty of flexibility – which could come in handy as the United boss is known to tinker with his formation from time to time.

We’ll have to wait and see how this story develops over the coming days but it looks like Darmian could be set for a move to Old Trafford and I think he’d be a great addition and fill what has become a problem area for United recently.
Rafael’s future at the club is in serious doubt as form and fitness issues saw him fall out-of-favour last season and Antonio Valencia was forced to deputise at right-back, but Darmian has the quality to make that position his own for years to come.
