Manchester United are expected to announce the signing of Matteo Darmian as early as tomorrow after agreeing a deal worth around £14m with Torino for the defender, according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Louis van Gaal has been tipped to bring in a new right-back this summer with Rafael facing an uncertain future and Antonio Valencia forced to fill-in at the back for much of last season.
Several names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but Matteo Darmian has emerged as a likely target in recent weeks with the Express reporting last weekend that United had seen their opening £10.5m offer rejected.
The Red Devils have wasted no time in trying to secure a deal as after reporting on Tuesday that United were locked in talks with Torino, Gianluca Di Marzio claims that a deal has now been struck between the two clubs.
The Sky Sport Italia journalist suggests that United will pay €18m up front with a further €2m in additional add ons – making the deal worth just over £14m – with Darmian set to sign a four-year contract worth around £1.4m net per season.
Di Marzio states that the finer details are just being ironed out, including the payment terms and a £285,000 development payment which is due to AC Milan, but an official announcement is expected as early as Thursday once the lawyers have completed the paperwork.
These claims are supported by Turin based newspaper TuttoSport who also claim that a deal has now been agreed and Darmian is due to fly to London before catching a train to Manchester to complete his move.
We’ll have to wait and see whether these reports prove accurate but it does appear that Darmian is set to become United’s second major signing of the summer transfer window over the coming days.
The Italian international is an attacking right-back with a great engine and is capable of playing as a wing-back or even as a right midfielder, so his versatility is sure to come in useful as van Gaal is known to tinker with his formation from time to time.

The 25-year-old has developed into one of the best full-backs in Italy over the past four years and is now a regular in Antonio Conte’s Italy squad, and I think he’s going to prove to be a very good signing for United if they can get this deal over the line.
