Arsenal Or Chelsea Table £5m Bid For Turkish Midfielder
Fenerbache has received a £5m offer from a mystery London club for midfielder Mehmet Topal with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly the most likely candidates
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea are linked with Mehmet Topal….
Fenerbache has received a £5m offer from a mystery London club for midfielder Mehmet Topal with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly the most likely candidates, according to the Metro.
Topal has been a key player in the Fenerbache side since joining the club from Valencia is 2012 and has made 116 appearances over the past three years, helping win the Super Lig and Super Cup double in 2014.
It appears the 29-year-old’s impressive form has caught the eye of some of England’s top clubs as the Metro are citing reports coming from Turkish Eurosport which claim that Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs keen on luring him to the Premier League this summer.
The newspaper suggests that Fener have now received a £5m offer for Topal’s services from an unnamed London club with Arsenal believed to be slight favourites ahead of Chelsea to have tabled the bid.
Despite Mikel Arteta signing a new one year deal last week, I expect Arsene Wenger to bring in another holding midfielder this summer as the Spaniard has been suffering from chronic calf problems in recent months which will severely restrict the amount of games he could play this season.
Many names have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months but Topal would bring a lot of experience to the club if he was to move to North London and he’d provide solid cover behind Francis Coquelin.
However, this mystery bidder could actually be Chelsea as Jose Mourinho has also been tipped to bring in another defensive midfielder with John Obi Mikel’s future at Stamford Bridge in doubt.
We’ll have to wait for further developments and the report doesn’t give any indication as to whether Fenerbache will accept or reject this supposed offer, but Topal could be a useful addition for either Arsenal or Chelsea.
The Turkish international predominantly plays as a defensive midfielder but is also capable of filling-in at centre-back when required, so he would give Wenger or Mourinho plenty of options if he was to make a move to either club.
