Sterling On Verge Of Liverpool Exit As Man City Close On £45m + £5m Add Ons Deal

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling in a deal that could be worth £45m up front with a further £5m in add ons

With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Raheem Sterling is edging closer to joining Manchester City….

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of want-away Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling in a deal that could end up being worth £45m up front with a further £5m in add ons, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson.

Sterling’s future has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few weeks and things were expected to come to a head as Brendan Rodgers prepared to take his squad to Thailand to start their pre-season tour this afternoon.

There had been talk that Sterling would refuse to be on the plane having missed training earlier this week due to apparent sickness but the want-away attacker was named in Rodgers’ initial 30-man squad which was announced on Liverpoolfc.com yesterday.

However, it appears the situation has developed over the past 24 hours as Sky Sports News claim that Manchester City have been in advanced talks with Liverpool over a potential deal for the 20-year-old.

The news outlet says that talks were far enough down the line that Liverpool decided to leave Sterling out of the squad that have just flown out to Thailand for the start of their pre-season tour in anticipation of a deal being reached with the Citizens.

It appears the negotiations may have found a successful conclusion as Mirror journalist David Anderson has just Tweeted to say that Liverpool have won the ‘stand off’ as City have agreed to a deal that is expected to see them pay £45m up front and a further £5m in additional add ons taking it closer to the Merseysiders £50m asking price.

These are significant developments and it does now look like it’s only a matter of time until Sterling will become a Manchester City player and bring to an end what’s become one of the messiest transfer sagas of the summer so far.

The England international first raised doubts over his future after calling off contract extension talks earlier this year and his agent, Aidy Ward, was then quoted in the Evening Standard as saying his client has no intention of signing a new deal as he wanted to leave Anfield.

The player has cited ‘footballing reasons’ for his desire to leave but the Mirror reported last week that it was in fact a total breakdown in his relationship with boss Brendan Rodgers that was the reason for his unhappiness at Anfield.

There appears to be no way back for Sterling at Liverpool now and I think it’s best that the situation looks like it will be resolved quickly and all parties can move on. Liverpool are getting a great price for an unsettled player while City will be buying one of the most promising young talents in European football.
