Euro Giants May Accept Arsenal’s £31m Bid For Man Utd Strike Target
Arsenal’s £31m bid for Man Utd target Karim Benzema could be accepted as Real Madrid close-in on a deal to sign Marco Reus as a replacement for the striker
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, more on Karim Benzema being linked with Arsenal….
Arsenal’s £31m bid for Manchester United target Karim Benzema could be accepted as Real Madrid close-in on a deal to sign Marco Reus as a replacement for the French striker, according to the Metro.
Benzema has once again been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates this summer and the Metro claim that the Gunners have tabled a £31m offer for the 27-year-old’s signature in recent days.
That offer was initially expected to be rejected by Real Madrid but the newspaper suggests that the Spanish giants are now considering accepting and selling Benzema in order to use the money to fund a move for Marco Reus.
The Liverpool Echo reported just yesterday that Madrid are closing in on a deal for the attacker after supposedly opening talks with Borussia Dortmund and it appears Rafa Benitez is ready to cash-in on Benzema in order to make room for the 25-year-old.
I’m sure Madrid won’t agree to sell their No.9 until they’re certain a deal is in place for Reus, but with the Echo confident the German international is heading for the Bernabeu, it looks like Benzema could be heading for England this summer.
The former Lyon striker has been tipped to leave Madrid this summer as new boss Rafa Benitez has been experimenting with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo through the middle in pre-season and Benzema on the bench.
If this continues into the new campaign, I think we might see the striker agitating for a move and it appears Arsenal are well-placed to secure his signature as the Express reported earlier this week that the player refused to rule out the possibility of moving to North London after speaking with Arsene Wenger.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only club who’ve been linked with a move as the newspaper claims that Manchester United have also been showing a keen interest in signing the French star this summer.
Louis van Gaal is in desperate need of a new front-man after selling Robin van Persie to Fenerbache and Benzema is the type of big-name signing that would excite the Old Trafford faithful.
As it stands, it looks like Arsenal are in pole position to snap-up the striker but I wouldn’t rule out United just yet as they have the financial muscle to out-bid the FA Cup holders.
Either way, I’d love to see Benzema come to the Premier League so hope that either Arsenal or United are able to lure him from Spain over the coming weeks – but it appears Madrid’s pursuit of Marco Reus is key to any potential deal.
