Arsenal To Hijack Liverpool’s Move For £50m Attacker As Wenger Eyes Double Swoop

Arsenal are ready to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Marco Reus as Arsene Wenger looks to splash the cash on two big-money forwards this summer

With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are ready to move for Marco Reus…

Arsenal are ready to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Marco Reus as Arsene Wenger looks to splash the cash on two big-money forwards before the transfer window shuts, according to the Telegraph.

The Gunners have been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far with Petr Cech the only significant new addition but that could all change during the closing stages of the summer.

The Telegraph claim that Arsenal are ready to derail Liverpool’s move for German international Marco Reus after the Merseysiders supposedly opened preliminary talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for the winger.

Brendan Rodgers has been extremely busy this summer with seven new faces arriving at Anfield but it looks as though the Northern Irishman isn’t done just yet with Reus targetted as a potential replacement for the departed Raheem Sterling.

However, it appears Liverpool are now going to face stiff competition from Arsenal with the newspaper suggesting that the Gunners now ready to step-up their interest in Reus too.

The 26-year-old has been with Dortmund since joining the club in 2012 and he’s developed into one of the best attackers in European football over the last three years having scored 53 goals in 119 appearances.

It looks as though a move to Arsenal or Liverpool could be on the cards as the Telegraph claim that Reus is keen on moving to England but they better be prepared to dig deep as Dortmund will demand a fee of around £50m for his signature.

I’d personally put Arsenal as the slight favourites as they have the financial muscle meet that asking price with director Lord Harris quoted in the Daily Mail yesterday as saying the club have the money available to break their transfer record if the right player is available this summer.

Reus would certainly be a sensational signing if the North Londoners could pull it off and he could be joined by another new arrival at the Emirates as the Telegraph claim that any potential deal for the German international won’t affect Wenger’s determination to sign a top class striker as well.

The French boss has been hotly tipped to bring in a new front-man and the Express claim that Karim Benzema is his top target, so it looks like Arsenal are ready to slash the cash on two big-money signings this summer if they can get deals agreed.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming weeks but I would put Arsenal right up there among the favourites for the title if they could somehow manage to sign Reus and Benzema this summer.

My gut feeling is that just one top class attacker is the most Gunners fans should be expecting as it’s a huge ask to pull off two marquee signings in one summer, but even if they just got one of Reus or Benzema they’d be in great shape heading into the new campaign.
