Man Utd Aim To Wrap-Up 6th Signing This Weekend, Personal Terms Already Agreed

Man Utd will hold talks with Barcelona this weekend with the aim of finally agreeing a deal to sign Pedro Rodriguez, personal terms have already been agreed

With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Pedro…

Pedro-Rodriguez-Barcelona

Manchester United will hold fresh talks with Barcelona this weekend with the aim of finally agreeing a deal to sign Pedro Rodriguez after the attacker reiterated his desire to leave the Nou Camp, according to Sport.

Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for another creative attacker after selling Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday and United have been strongly linked with a move for Pedro in recent weeks.

Sport claimed at the start of the week that United chief executive Ed Woodward had flown out to Spain to hold face-to-face talks with Barca with the aim of trying to trash out a deal for the 28-year-old.

Woodward seemingly arrived back in Manchester without a deal in place but the talks must have still been productive as the Spanish outlet is reporting today that Barca officials will arrive in Manchester this weekend to try and finally come to an agreement.

Sport say that Pedro reiterated his desire to join United after meeting with Josep Maria Bartomeu and Luis Enrique this week and they suggest that the attacker is now living out his finals days as a Barcelona player ahead of his ‘imminent’ move to Old Trafford.

The Express claim that personal terms have already been agreed after van Gaal tempted Pedro with a bumper contract as well as the promise he’ll form part of a new-look front three alongside Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay if he makes the move to United.

The main sticking point has always been the fee. Sport suggest that United have yet to make a formal offer but Barcelona have made it clear they aren’t prepared to sell for anything less than the player’s €30m (£21.4m) buy-out clause.

It remains to be seen whether United will be prepared to match that figure but I have a feeling a compromise deal will be reached in the end that will see United pay slightly less up front with the rest coming in fixed add ons.

If these reports are to be believed, it looks like an agreement could be found this weekend but there is still the question of when Pedro would complete his move to Old Trafford.

Goal reported earlier this week that Barca are adamant the Spanish international plays a part in their Super Cup clash with Sevilla on Tuesday before he can leave, so United may have to wait until the end of next week before officially wrapping-up the deal.

Should Pedro move to United, he’ll become van Gaal’s sixth major signing of the summer and I think it would be a great piece of business from the Red Devils. Pedro is a versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the front-line and his goal record at Barca is impressive – with 98 goals in 318 games – despite the fact he’s not always been a regular.

We’ll have to wait for more updates after this supposed meeting takes place this weekend but I fully expect Pedro to eventually join United before the transfer window slams shut, and think he’ll be a huge success here.
