Spanish Journalist: Arsenal Could Land World Class Striker

With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Karim Benzema could actually join Arsenal this summer….

Spanish football expect Graham Hunter has told talkSPORT that Karim Benzema could join Arsenal but only if the striker is prepared to tell Real Madrid he wants to leave.

Benzema has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but Rafa Benitez has publicly insisted the French international wouldn’t be sold.

However, according to Spanish football expect Graham Hunter, a deal IS ‘doable’ as Madrid need the money to finance a move for David De Gea and to help cope with their €500m debts, but the club will only sell if Benzema asks to leave.

He told talkSPORT:

“Arsenal have the money and Real Madrid need the money. They are 500million euros in global debt, they are trying to buy David De Gea and won’t go the extra mile to get him off Manchester United because of the cash, so they need the money. And because Rafa Benitez will play 4-2-3-1 there is one less place for an attacking player than there was last season.

“It is a doable deal, but it won’t happen unless Benzema says to Real Madrid: ‘I want to go to Arsenal’.”

The speculation over Benzema’s future seems to be intensifying by the day and it appears Arsenal have navigated their way into pole position if the striker decides he wants a new challenge.

I think key to all this is whether he features in Benitez’s first team plans this season. The Spaniard has been experimenting with Bale and Ronaldo through the middle in pre-season and if that continues into the new campaign, Benzema will be out in the cold.

I don’t think a player of his quality will be content sitting on the bench so we could see him demand a move towards the end of the transfer window and Arsenal are primed to make their swoop.

As Hunter points out, we have the money and I personally think Arsene Wenger is confident he’ll get his man eventually. We have been very quiet in the market but the boss keeps insisting he’ll act if a special talent becomes available, and Benzema certainly fits into that category.

He would be a sensational signing if we could pull it off as he’s a world class striker and a front-line of Benzema, Sanchez, Ozil and Walcott would be a match for anyone in the Premier League, and even in Europe.

Let’s see how things develop but I don’t expect any real movement until the Spanish seasons kicks off later this month, so any potential deal for Benzema is likely to take place right at the end of the window.
