Football Transfers Quiz: Do you know your United and Chelsea signings?

With a number of players moving in the last few months for over £20m, which seem worth it, and who has already showed promise in the first four games?

Is £44m for Raheem Sterling a little steep? How about £32m for Memphis Depay? Be you a student, a travel happy mega-fan or an 80-year-old veteran, the subject of hefty transfer fees reaches all, and the 2015/16 summer transfer market has, once again, thrown up a number of big money maybes.

As price tags go, Sterling has taken the prize so far this summer, with a number of other players moving in the last few months for over £20m. But which seem worth it, and who has already showed promise in the first four games?

Raheem Sterling – £44m – Liverpool to Manchester City

Verdict: Still raw, and with some seriously suspect finishing in recent times. However, in terms of a front three with Navas and Aguero, City have arguably the fastest and most dynamic attack in the Premier League. Lest we forget, Sterling is around six years away from his prime. Scary!

Question: Do you know where Sterling started his career?

Memphis Depay – £32m – PSV to Manchester United

Verdict: Possessing of devastating swagger, a lethal penchant of cutting in and scoring, and already well on the way to being a physical specimen akin to one Cristiano Ronaldo; Memphis has all the tools to succeed in the English top flight. Still only 21, he can be forgiven for being a bit Dutch League with his slow movement and slightly casual uptake. Once he hits his stride, the £32m paid could seem a snip.

Question: Do you know how many goals Memphis got last year?

Nicolás Otamendi – £32m – Valencia to Manchester City

Verdict: A solid, ball-playing defender, Otamendi will be a sound addition to the City squad. But do they really need a big money centre back?

Last year’s runners-up haven’t let in a single goal in their first four games, and it seems odd for City to splash so much cash here, with Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala both in form. A budget backup would surely have been wiser?

Question: How much did City spend on Kompany in 2008?

Pedro – £21.4m – Barcelona to Chelsea

Verdict: Not bad for the eternal substitute! A high profile move to the English Champions, and a goal scoring debut in the 3-2 win over West Brom last weekend; Pedro is already justifying his price tag.

Christian Benteke – £32.5m – Aston Villa to Liverpool

Verdict: Any man who can bag 49 goals in 100 appearances for a struggling Villa is worth taking a look at! In Benteke, Liverpool have themselves a bona fide Drogba clone. Powerful, confident, and with superb hold-up abilities; the Belgian is set to be a big player for Brendan Rodgers this season.

Question: How many goals did Benteke get in his first season in England?

Firmino – £29m – Hoffenheim to Liverpool

Verdict: Signed after a promising Copa America for Brazil, Firmino hasn’t really hit the ground running at Anfield. A little too comfortable on the ball, with defenders itching to welcome him to the EPL in their own way; Firmino has some quick learning to do. But he’s still only 23, and highly rated in his home country. Time will tell.

Question: How many did Firmino score last season in Germany?

Baba Rahman – £21.7m -Augsburg to Chelsea

Verdict: The 21 year-old had a very successful period in Germany for Augsburg and Greuther Fürth. Lithe but strong and brave going forward, Chelsea have got themselves a very interesting prospect, and with Branislav Ivanovic showing his age in recent fixtures, we may well see the youngster get his chance to impress soon.

Question: Where country is Baba Rahman from?

Morgan Schneiderlin – £25m – Southampton to Manchester United

Verdict: The Frenchman is now a regular fixture for his country, and was a driving force in the centre of the park for Southampton for a number of years. But Louis van Gaal now has rather a lot of central midfield options this season. With Rooney misfiring up top, could the Schneiderlin money have been best utilised in bringing in another striker?

Question: What do you think? Which of the Premier League’s big movers are worth the money?
