Man Utd vs Liverpool Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Prediction

Manchester United take on Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, predicted score for the game.

man utd news

Manchester United face-off against arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening in this weekend’s stand-out Premier League fixture.

United have made an inconsistent start to the new season with narrow victories over Tottenahm and Aston Villa overshadowed by disappointing results against Newcastle and Swansea City.

Seven points from four games is a solid return but manager Louis van Gaal would have been hoping for more if they are to be considered as genuine title challengers this campaign, so a positive result tomorrow is a must.

Liverpool have also endured a mixed start to their season with victories over Stoke and Bournemouth followed by a solid point away at Arsenal, but the wheels fell off in spectacular style last time out after West Ham left Anfield with a 3-0 win.

Therefore, Brendan Rodgers is going to be keen to get his side back on track and what better place to do it than at the home of their fierce North West rivals.

Team news

United are likely to be without Michael Carrick after he picked up a calf problem while away with the England squad this week.  It means Bastian Schweinsteiger could come in to start alongside Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield.

Phil Jones is also expected to once again miss out with thrombosis so Daley Blind should keep his place in an unchanged back four.

David De Gea is expected to be recalled to the starting eleven after signing a new four year contract at Old Trafford today, while Anthony Martial could make his debut – most likely off the bench.

Liverpool have plenty of problems to worry about with Jordan Henderson likely to miss out with an ankle injury while Adam Lallana is also a major doubt with a thigh problem. The pair will have late fitness tests but this game should come too soon.

Philippe Coutinho is suspended following his dismissal against the Hammers while Joe Allen and Jon Flanagan remain sidelined.

Daniel Sturridge is back in full training and could return to the bench, but he’s highly unlikely to start.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool: United have certainly not hit top form yet this season but I think they’ll just have enough to see off a weakened Liverpool side at home.

Betting Tips

Manchester United are the narrow 19/20 favourites to win the game and my prediction of a 2-1 home win is on offer at odds of around 8/1. I also like the look of Wayne Rooney to open the scoring at odds of 5/1 so if we combine these two bets in a scorecast, we get very tempting odds of 25/1. If you are going to bet on the game, be sure to get all the latest enhanced odds and price boosts from the UK’s biggest bookmakers and get maximum values for your money.
