Manchester United endured a miserable return to the Champions League after going down 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven while Luke Shaw was stretchered off with a suspected broken leg.

The United full-back was scythed down by Hector Moreno mid-way through the first half and was stretchered from the field after receiving 10 minutes of treatment for a suspected broken leg.

The visitors then opened the scoring just before half time when Memphis Depay jinked his way through the PSV defence before cooly slotting home against his former team for 0-1.

However, their lead didn’t last long as the home side levelled things up just minutes later and it was Moreno who was on hand to head home via a slight deflection from Daley Blind.

After the break, United found themselves trailing when Luciano Narsingh fired home at the far post for 2-1 in the 57th minute. United continued to dominate possession but couldn’t find a way through so start their Champions League campaign with a defeat.
