[Video Goals] Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 Arsenal: Giroud Off As Gunners Crash

Arsenal got their Champions League campaign off to the worst possible start with Olivier Giroud seeing red during a 2-1 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night.

After missing a couple of early chances we were made to pay when the Croatian champions took a shock lead midway through the first half.

Some poor defending allowed Josip Pivaric space to get in behind the defence and while David Ospina did well to save his shot, the rebound deflected in off Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for 1-0.

Any hopes of getting back in the game were dealt a huge blow when Olivier Giroud was sent off just before half time after receiving a needless second booking having already been cautioned for dissent.

Zagreb then made it 2-0 shortly after the break when Fernandez got ahead of Laurent Koscielny to head home from a corner to leave us with a mountain to climb.

Theo Walcott came off the bench to race clear and cut the deficit to 2-1 but we couldn’t find the second goal to claim a point so we start our Champions League campaign with a sorry defeat.
