The Capital One Cup third round draw has thrown-up some interesting matches with Aston Villa vs Birmingham City one of the stand-out ties of the round.

The Midlanders face-off against each other at Villa Park on Tuesday night in what promises to be an enthralling game with pride – as well as a place in the fourth round – at stake for both clubs.

Aston Villa are understandably the heavy favourites as they not only play at home but they are also a Premier League club, while Birmingham have played in the Championship since their relegation from the top flight in 2011.

However, we’ve come across a website called howlongsinceastonvillawonatrophy which displays a timer comparing how long it’s been since Villa and the Blues each won a trophy.

Given Villa’s status and history, the results may actually surprise a few people as it’s been over 19 years and 6 months since they last lifted a trophy – when they won the League Cup with a 3-0 victory over Leeds United at Wembley thanks to goals from Savo Milosevic, Ian Taylor and Dwight Yorke.

However, it’s been just 4 years and 7 months since Birmingham last won a trophy – when they too lifted the League Cup with a shock 2-1 victory over Arsenal thanks to a last minute goal from Obafemi Martins.

If you scroll down, the website lets you calculate the difference between the two clubs last triumphs, which current stands at the time of writing as over 15 years and 1 month.  So, does this give Birmingham fans the bragging rights heading into the game at Villa Park on Tuesday? Perhaps….

Check out the fun timer for yourself below to see a live update on just how long its been since Aston Villa won a trophy.
