Liverpool won a five-goal thriller at Anfield after beating Aston Villa 3-2 on Saturday afternoon to ease the pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ shoulders.

The Northern Irishman’s position as Reds boss has come under intense scrutiny following a disappointing start to the season so three points were a must against Villa yesterday.

Liverpool got off to the perfect start as James Milner fired them ahead inside the opening two minutes before Daniel Sturridge doubled their lead with a stunning volley.

Villa halved the deficit before Sturridge got his second of the game and while the visitors pulled one back to make it 3-2, the Reds held out to secure a vital win at Anfield.

After the game, several of the players have taken to Twitter to celebrate the victory with Sturridge being joined by Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez, Simon Mignolet, Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno and Danny Ings in posting messages and sharing photos with their followers.
