Chelsea To Launch £33m+ Move For Brazilian International In January

Chelsea will renew their interest in Marquinhos this January and will test Paris Saint Germain’s resolve by tabling an offer worth in excess of £33 million.

With the summer transfer window now closed for business, it’s time to start looking at those deals that failed to get over the line and those which are being lined-up for the future. Today, Chelsea are linked with Marquinhos….

Chelsea will renew their interest in Marquinhos this January and will test Paris Saint Germain’s resolve by tabling an offer worth in excess of £33m, according to the Express.

Jose Mourinho was in the market for another centre-back during the closing stages of the summer transfer window and was forced to look elsewhere after being frustrated in his attempts to sign Everton’s John Stones.

Sky Sports News reported last month that the Blues had made an audacious attempt to lure Marquinhos away from Paris on deadline day and apparently saw two big-money offers rejected by the French champions.

The Express claim that the last offer was worth a huge £33m but even that wasn’t enough to persuade PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to cash-in on the young Brazilian international.

However, it looks like Chelsea have maintained their interest in the 21-year-old as the newspaper says they will renew their interest when the transfer window reopens in January and they’ll table an offer worth in excess of the £33m they submitted in the summer.

It remains to be seen exactly what offer Chelsea will put forward of if it will be enough to tempt PSG in to a sale but Marquinhos would be an excellent addition if the West Londoners were able to pull it off this winter.

The Samba Star is one of the best young defenders in world football and despite his young age, he’s already played in the Champions League and at a World Cup for Brazil.

However, he’s struggling for regular game-time at PSG this season with Thiago Silva and David Luiz the preferred centre-back pairing and it’s restricted Marquinhos to just four starts so far this campaign.

Therefore, PSG may feel it’s best to cash-in and use the money to strengthen their team elsewhere while the player could perhaps be lured away if he’s promised more regular first team football.

That won’t be easy to come by at Chelsea either as they have Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma, John Terry and summer signing Papy Djilobodji already on the books, but Mourinho’s defence has been all over the place this season so he might see Marquinhos as the man he can build a new-look back four around.

Terry is certainly coming to the end of his illustrious career at Stamford Bridge and I think Marquinhos would be a superb long-term replacement, but we’ll have to see how PSG react should Chelsea come calling again in January.
