Messi shows why he’s still the king with success of Messi 10/10 boot launch

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi ensured he remains at the very top of the game after the hugely successful launch of his limited edition Adidas football boot last week.
To celebrate an astonishing 2014/15 season that saw Messi win the treble with Barcelona, Adidas decided to make a commemorative boot with the ‘Messi 10/10’ expected to be the first in a line of special edition boots.
Only 100 pairs of the ‘Messi 10/10’ boots were produced and the only size available was 8.5 – the boot size of Messi – with just 89 of them being sold to the public at a special event hosted by Adidas at their store in Barcelona on October 10.
Obviously Messi himself took one of the pairs while he also gave a pair of the boots to 10 specially selected players through the ‘chosen by Messi’ campaign. Among those lucky enough to be selected were Manchester United striker James Wilson and Chelsea’s South American duo Kenedy and Boga.
Each pair came with an embossed leather tag that displayed the individual serial number ensuring that the boots will no doubt become collector’s items. Of course the boots sold out within hours so for those of you who were hoping to get your hands on a pair, you’d be better off checking out Harvey Norman’s soccer boots section and buying something a little more attainable.
The ‘Messi 10/10’ campaign comes off the back of a major re-brand of their boots by Adidas and they’ve released several marketing campaigns starring Messi in recent months following the release of the MESSI15 boot back in July.
This is just another example of why Messi is the biggest name in football right now and arguably the greatest of all time. Not many players get one pair of boots made for them never mind a special edition set.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only other player in world football who would generate such attention and it would come as no surprise if his boot sponsors – Nike – bring out something similar should the Portuguese star achieve greatness with Real Madrid this season.
