[Video Goals] Bayern Munich 5-1 Arsenal: Gunners Thrashed By Formidable Bayern

By on November 4, 2015

Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying from Group F received a blow after losing 5-1 to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Robert Lewandowski beat the offside trap to head home for 1-0 before Mesut Ozil saw a goal ruled out for Arsenal for handball.

Bayern doubled their lead midway through the first half when Thomas Muller’s shot deflected off Per Mertesacker and past Petr Cech for 2-0 before David Alaba fired home a stunner for 3-0 on the stroke of half-time.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly distinguished when Arjen Robben came off the bench to make it 4-0 with his first touch before Olivier Giroud pulled one back with his superb scissor kick making it 4-1. Bayern rubbed salt in the wound by adding a lovely fifth late on when Muller slotted past Cech to secure a 5-1 victory.

If the loss wasn’t bad enough, Olympiakos came from behind to beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 in the groups other game meaning we need Bayern to beat the Greeks, while we need to win our remaining two games and beat Olympiakos by two clear goals in order to sneak second.
