Arsene Wenger has given a fitness update on Santi Cazorla and Mathieu Debuchy following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Cazorla has been central to Arsenal’s good form this season but the Spaniard put in a surprisingly subdued performance during the first half yesterday as Spurs took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a fine goal from Harry Kane.

The 30-year-old didn’t appear for the second half after being replaced by Mathieu Flamini at half time and it prompted a much-improved performance from the home side as the Gunners rescued a point thanks to Kieran Gibbs’s late strike.

People have been left speculating over the reason for Cazorla’s poor display but speaking to Arsenal.com after the game, Wenger revealed that the midfielder was affected by a mysterious dizzy spell but the Arsenal boss is confident it’s nothing serious.

The Frenchman also gave an update on Debuchy after the full-back was subbed off with 15 minutes to go after appearing to feel his left leg prompting fears that Arsenal had suffered yet another injury blow.

However, Wenger has confirmed that Debuchy was simply tired after playing twice in four days having previously made just three appearances in all competitions this season.

The Arsenal boss told the clubs website:

On Cazorla’s dizziness…

He is not sick, he was just dizzy and could not move, you could see that on the pitch. I did not really know what he had, so at half-time I took him off, I hope it is nothing bad, but it does not look like it, because he says he is alright now.

On the other injuries…

Debuchy finished tired because he played against Bayern, and played today, and had not much competition, but he looks alright.

It will come as a welcome relief that neither Cazorla or Debuchy have picked up injuries as Arsenal already have a lengthy injury list to contend with – although Wenger will be hoping to have the likes of Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back after the international break.
