Manchester United have been handed a timely injury boost with Chris Smalling declaring himself fit and available for selection against Watford this weekend.

Smalling was considered as a doubt for tomorrow’s trip to Vicarage Road after limping off during the closing stages of England’s defeat to Spain last week and he was left out of the Three Lions friendly win over France on Tuesday night.

Manager Louis van Gaal gave no mention of the defender or his possible availability for the Watford match at his pre-match press conference earlier today.

However, Smalling has now told ManUtd.com that he’s fit and ready to go against the Hornets this weekend as he looks to extend his record of featuring in every United fixture so far this season.

“I’m fighting fit and I’m feeling good to go again,”

“It’s nice that this run keeps on going and, more importantly, that the performances keep going because you can play every game but you must make that impact. I’m looking forward to making another impact on Saturday.”

This news will come as a major boost to United as van Gaal will have to make do without six of his first team squad this weekend after Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini joined Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw on the sidelines.

Smalling has developed into one of United’s most important players after enjoying an excellent start to the season with his impressive displays at the back leading to him being named as the club’s Player of the Month for October, so I’m sure van Gaal will be delighted he’s available for selection this weekend.
