Manchester United will look to climb to the top of the Premier League table when they take on leaders Leicester at the King Power on Saturday evening.

Ahead of the game, Louis van Gaal has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update.

Unfortunately the United boss confirmed a double injury blow with the news that Phil Jones and Ander Herrera will both miss the trip to Leicester tomorrow evening.

Jones missed the midweek stalemate with PSV Eindhoven due to a foot injury that he picked up during the 2-1 victory over Watford last weekend and it appears the centre-back has failed to recover in time to return against Leicester.

Herrera also missed the Champions League game at Old Trafford on Wednesday night due to a hamstring injury that he too suffered at Vicarage Road last Saturday and the Spaniard will remain on the sidelines tomorrow.

van Gaal also said he will assess the fitness of his squad after what he described as an ‘intense’ week, but Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are all certain to miss out with long-term injuries while Michael Carrick is also a major doubt with a foot injury.

When asked about any fresh injuries, the Dutchman told the clubs website:

“It’s too early to say something about that but it was a very intense game,I cannot say too much about that.”

When pressed further on Jones and Herrera, van Gaal revealed that the injuries are not that serious, but he’s hoping to have at least one of the players back within the next fortnight. He continued:

“I cannot say that also because these kind of injuries you cannot predict. I don’t think it is weeks, but I think within two weeks one of the two can come back. But I don’t know, you can never predict that, because injuries are unpredictable.”

The loss of Herrera in particular will come as a big blow as United have lacked creativity in recent weeks and Herrera would have been a useful player to call-upon against Leicester this weekend.

In his absence, Wayne Rooney is likely to play in the No.10 role with Anthony Martial spear-heading the attack and van Gaal will be looking for a lot more from his front two after a lackluster display in midweek.
