[Player Ratings] Aston Villa 0-2 Arsenal: Ozil & Ramsey Shine As Gunners Go Top

Here are my ratings as Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park this afternoon.

Aaron Ramsey

Ramsey: Injured again

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park this afternoon.

An early Olivier Giroud penalty put us ahead before Aaron Ramsey finished off a fine counter-attack to seal the three points just before half time, with the win seeing us leapfrog Leicester ahead of their clash with Chelsea tomorrow.

Here are my ratings from the game:

Cech  6.5/10 | Had very little to do other than make a couple of routine saves and collect some crosses to secure the clean sheet that sees him equal the Premier League record.

Bellerin  7/10 | Another assured display at the back and was a threat going forward.

Mertesacker  7/10 | No real problems for the giant German. Dealt with the Villa attack pretty comfortably.

Koscielny  7/10 | Rarely troubled at the back and was always keen to bring the ball out from defence to initiate attacks.

Monreal  7/10 | Caught out a couple of times as Hutton and Sinclair got in behind but held his own against the duo.

Flamini  7/10 | Another solid display in the middle of the park but ventures forward too often for my liking.

Ramsey  8.5/10 | Superb all-round performance from Rambo. Started and finished the move for the second goal and was at the heart of everything.

Ozil  8/10 | Another assist for the German schemer. So unselfish to set-up the Ramsey goal.

Campbell  6/10 | Put in another good shift but didn’t really have any impact on the game.

Walcott  7.5/10 | Lovely run to win the penalty and great ball to release Ozil for the second. Gaining match fitness all the time.

Giroud  7.5/10 | Cooly taken penalty and his hold-up play was on point. Full of confidence right now.

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain 6/10 | Looked dangerous at times during his 30 minute cameo.

Gibbs 6/10 | On to offer more protection to Monreal down the left.

Chambers N/A

So a relatively comfortable win in the end and it’s great to see us top of the table as we approach Christmas. Hopefully Chelsea can do us a favour tomorrow so we can retain top spot ahead of the Man City game.
