Liverpool have been hit by a double injury blow as Jurgen Klopp prepares his players for Sunday’s trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford.

Daniel Sturridge is currently on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury during the Reds 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United 10 days ago and was initially expected to be out for around three weeks.

Klopp then suggested that the striker could return to action this weekend against Watford after describing Sturridge’s problem as nothing more than a ‘little injury’.

However, the Liverpool Echo are reporting that Sturridge is now highly unlikely to make the trip to Vicarage Road as he’s not yet ready to return to full training.

The news will come as a blow as Liverpool desperately try to find ways to get Sturridge back to fitness for a prolonged period, with the 25-year-old enduring another injury-plagued season that’s restricted him to just three appearances so far.

In his absence, Christian Benteke could lead the line up front against Watford on Sunday – although Divock Origi could have put himself in contention after coming off the bench to score in stoppage time to rescue a draw at home to West Brom last weekend.

There has also been some further bad news on the injury front with the Mirror reporting that youngster Jordan Rossiter is set to miss the festive period after picking up a hamstring strain.

Rossiter suffered the injury when making a cameo appearance off the bench during the Merseysiders 0-0 Europa League draw at FC Sion last week and is now expected to be out until the New Year.

It’s the latest injury woe for the 18-year-old as he’s already spent several weeks on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring while away with the England U-21s in October.
