By on December 26, 2015

Oscar missed a late penalty as Guus Hiddink started his spell as interim Chelsea boss with a 2-2 draw with Watford at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The Blues opened the scoring midway through the first half when Diego Costa was on hand to volley home from close range following a 31st minute corner.

Watford were given the perfect chance to level things up just before half time when Nemanja Matic handled in the area. Troy Deeney made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-1 in the 41st minute.

The visitors then took a shock lead just 10 minutes into the second half when the in-form Odion Ighalo made it 2-1 with an effort that deflected off Gary Cahill and past Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea made it 2-2 in the 65th minute when Costa beat the offside trap to cooly slot home following a pass from Willian and they were gifted the chance to win it late on when Eden Hazard was tripped in the area. However, Oscar slipped and blazed the resulting penalty over the bar.

The hosts couldn’t fine a late winner so the game finished 2-2 to leave Chelsea in 15th place in the table.
