[Video Goals] Southampton 4-0 Arsenal: Sorry Gunners Thrashed By Saints

By on December 26, 2015

Arsenal missed the chance to go top of the Premier League after being thrashed 4-0 by Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium this evening.

The Saints opened the scoring in spectacular fashion when Cuco Martina thrashed home a stunning half-volley from 25 yards in the 19th minute to make it 1-0.

The hosts then doubled their advantage shortly after half time but this time there was plenty of controversy around the goal as Laurent Koscielny was tripped by Shane Long just before the striker made it 2-0 from close range.

Any hope of an Arsenal comeback was extinguished when Jose Fonte headed home from a corner in the 69th minute – although replays showed that the referee should have awarded a goal kick.

Southampton added gloss to the scoreline after Long raced clear to make it 4-0 in stoppage time as Arsenal slumped to a hugely disappointing defeat that sees us miss the chance to go top of the table.
