[Video Highlights] Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle: Koscielny Winner Sees Gunners Move Clear

By on January 2, 2016

Arsenal moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League table thanks to a nervy 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates this afternoon.

We were off the pace for much of the game and Newcastle probably should have been ahead as the first half ended goalless at 0-0.

We barely improved after the break and again it was Newcastle who went closest to scoring as Petr Cech made a fine save to deny Wijnaldum when clean through.

That save proved crucial as Arsenal eventually broke the deadlock from a set-piece as Laurent Koscielny was on hand to score from close range after Olivier Giroud had kept the ball alive following an Ozil corner in the 72nd minute.

Newcastle pushed for a deserved equaliser but it was the Gunners who should have scored again as Aaron Ramsey missed a glorious chance to wrap things up in injury time.

However, we managed to hold on to secure a 1-0 win which sees us move two points clear of Leicester City after they were held to a 0-0 draw by AFC Bournemouth this afternoon.
