By on January 13, 2016

West Bromwich Albion struck late-on to hold Chelsea to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues opened the scoring midway through the first half when Cesar Azpilicueta ghosted in at the far post to tap home from close range in the 20th minute.

West Brom levelled things up before half time when Craig Gardner drilled past Thibaut Courtois from fully 25-yards before Chelsea re-took the lead in the 73rd minute via a Gareth McAuley own goal.

However, the Baggies refused to lay down and they grabbed a late equaliser when James McClean fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area for 2-2 in the 85th minute.

The result leaves Chelsea sitting fourteenth in the Premier League table and 12 points off the top four so their hopes of getting back in the race for Champions League qualification have taken another blow.
