Chelsea On Verge Of Signing Brazilian Attacker After Agreeing Personal Terms

Chelsea are on the verge of signing Alexandre Pato after the Brazilian striker verbally agreed a contract worth around £1.77m per season, according to ESPN.

With the winter transfer window in full swing, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Chelsea close in on Alexandre Pato…

Chelsea are on the verge of signing Alexandre Pato after the Brazilian striker verbally agreed a contract worth around £1.77m per season, according to ESPN.

Interim Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has suggested he’ll need to bring in another striker before the end of the month with Radamel Falcao struggling to overcome a thigh injury that’s kept him out since October.

The Dutchman’s options in attack have been further limited with Loic Remy only recently returning from a calf problem while Diego Costa was forced off against Everton at the weekend with a shin injury.

Pato emerged as a surprise target after confirming his interest in moving to the Premier League this winter and it looks as though the Brazilian international could now be set for a move to Stamford Bridge with ESPN reporting today the Blues are in advanced talks with his agent.

The report claims that Pato has verbally agreed terms over a contract worth just £1.77m a year and the 26-year-old is now expected to wrap-up the move from Corinthians to Chelsea over the coming days.

Pato made his name during a five-year spell at AC Milan when he was hotly tipped to develop into one of the best strikers in world football after scoring 51 goals in 117 appearances during his stay at the San Siro.

His career eventually nosedived in Italy as a spate of injuries hampered his progress and the striker moved back to his homeland in 2013 where he’s spent the last year on loan at Sao Paulo following an unsuccessful season with Corinthians.

However, it looks as though Pato is about to be given a chance to resurrect his career in the Premier League with Chelsea and it will certainly be interesting to see how he does if he completes this reported move to Stamford Bridge.

If the Blues can get him 100% fit and confident in front of goal again, then it could turn out to be a masterstroke from the defending champions as Pato was a supreme talent in his day and he’s scored 10 goals in 27 appearances for the Brazilian national team.

We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of this but if ESPN are accurate, then it looks as though Pato is on the verge of moving to Chelsea and joining an ever-growing list of Brazilian’s on the books at Stamford Bridge.
