Arsenal have been handed a major double injury boost after Arsene Wenger confirmed that Francis Coquelin and Danny Welbeck are set to resume full training.

Coquelin has been out since suffering a serious knee ligament injury against West Brom in November and the Frenchman wasn’t expected to return until late February.

However, the 24-year-old is well ahead of schedule in his recovery and the boss has now revealed that Coquelin will be back in full first team training at London Colney today.

It will be a couple of weeks before Coquelin will have the necessary fitness to be in contention for a place in the squad but it’s still excellent news that he’s made a swift recovery and his return will give us a real lift during the second half of the season.

In a double boost, Wenger also confirmed that Welbeck will join Coquelin in full training next week as he looks to finally make his comeback from a long-standing knee problem.

Welbeck hasn’t featured since suffering the injury against Chelsea way back in April of last year but after a long road to recovery, the former Manchester United attacker is now set to make his return.

I’m sure the club will be cautious with Danny and we won’t rush him back after eight months on the sidelines so I suspect it’s going to be a few weeks yet before we see him back in the first team.

The boss also gave another update on Tomas Rosicky and the Czech international will step-up his comeback with a run-out for the under-21’s tomorrow night.

Here is what Wenger is quoted as saying by London24 at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of our game with Chelsea on Sunday:

“Coquelin is back in training today, he is ahead of schedule,”

“Welbeck will be back next week. Rosicky will play tomorrow night with the under-21s.”
