Sunderland vs Man Utd Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Predicted Score
Man Utd take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, betting tips and predicted score for the game
Manchester United will look to give their top four hopes a major boost when they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils saw two vital points slip away after Diego Costa struck in injury time to salvage a 1-1 for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
That result has left United sitting six points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City so Louis van Gaal will be desperate to get back to winning ways tomorrow in order to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
This weekend is also the perfect chance for United to close the gap on those above them as the current top four all play each other on Sunday, so United know this is an opportunity not to be missed.
Sunderland come in to the game after rescuing a dramatic late point against Liverpool last Saturday with two goals in the final ten minutes securing a 2-2 draw at Anfield.
However, Sam Allardyce’s men still sit in the bottom three and are four points from safety so they’ll be desperate to get a positive result tomorrow in order to boost their survival hopes.
United will continue to be without Bastian Schweinsteiger as the German midfielder is still working his way back to full fitness following a niggling knee injury.
Phil Jones saw his comeback cut short after picking up a knock playing for the under-21’s on Monday night while Adnan Januzaj and Guillermo Varela all picking up injuries during the 7-0 win.
Striker Will Keane has been rewarded for his five-goal haul in that match with a place in the first team squad this weekend but Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young remain sidelined.
Sunderland will be without defender Younes Kaboul and striker Duncan Watmore as the duo are nursing ankle ligament injuries while Jermain Lens is a doubt with a hernia.
Sebastian Larsson is back in training following a knee injury but this game is likely to come too soon so he remains out along with Billy Jones. However, Fabio Borini is back in contention after recovering from a virus.
Sunderland 1-2 Man Utd: The Red Devils were unlucky not to come away with all three points against Chelsea and they have an excellent record against the Black Cats that’s seen them lose just two of their 29 Premier League meetings. Therefore, I think we’ll see United edge this one.
United are the 3/4 favourites to win the game but Football-Talk can get you enhanced odds of 5/1 on a United win – just click here to take advantage of these crazy odds. My prediction of 2-1 is on offer at 8/1 while I also like the look of Rooney to open the scoring at 7/2. If you combined those two bets in a score-cast then we get very tempting odds of 18/1.
