With the winter transfer window closed, manager’s are now looking ahead towards the summer and planning deals for next season. Today, Manchester United are linked with a move for Arsenal target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang…
Manchester United are set to blow Arsenal out of the water with a £60m bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and are ready to hand the Borussia Dortmund hitman a £200,000-a-week deal to move to Old Trafford, according to the Mirror.
Aubameyang has become one of the most feared strikers in world football this season after scoring an incredible 30 goals in 30 games in all competitions for Dortmund so far this campaign.
That sensational form has led to interest from the Premier League with the Metro citing reports coming out of Spain last month that claimed Arsenal had tabled a £44.6m bid for the Gabon international.
Dortmund seemingly refused to do business and while the Gunners have maintained their interest ahead of this summer, it looks as though Arsene Wenger is going to have to fend off some serious competition if he wants to finally land the striker.
That’s because the Mirror are reporting today that Man Utd have now made Aubameyang their number one transfer target and are said to be confident of luring the hitman to Old Trafford even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The newspaper claims that United will test Dortmund’s resolve with a bid of around £60m and are ready to hand Aubameyang a bumper contract worth £200,000-a-week together with the promise of making him a world-wide super-star.
United recently announced their latest financial results and despite their problems on the pitch, the club continue to blossom off it and they’ll have vast sums available to spent this summer thanks to their lucrative commercial deals as well as the huge influx of cash coming in from the new TV deal.
It looks as though Aubameyang is now a prime target for the Red Devils and the Mirror state that Old Trafford chiefs have already made contact with the player’s representatives in the hope of stealing a march on the likes of Arsenal.
It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will be able to match United’s financial power but it appears the Manchester giants are in pole position as it stands.
Louis van Gaal is unlikely to still be the United manager next season but whoever is in charge will no doubt need to bring in another striker as they’ve been heavily reliant on Wayne Rooney and Aubameyang would be a superb signing if they could pull it off.
