Liverpool have opened talks with Anderlecht over a potential £5.2m deal for highly-rated midfielder Samuel Bastien, according to the Express.

Bastien has progressed through the Anderlecht youth team set-up since joining the club as a youngster and has developed in to one of the most promising young players in Belgian football.

The 19-year-old made his first team debut last season and is being tipped for a call-up to the Belgian under-21 side having already represented the under-19’s.

Bastien is currently on loan at Serie B side Avellino and he’s been catching the eye of scouts from several top European clubs during his 24 appearances so far this season.

The Express claim that the likes of Roma, Fiorentina and Sevilla have all been keeping track of the midfielder but it looks like it’s Liverpool who’ve made the first move to secure the signature.

According to the newspaper, the Reds have already made contact with Anderlecht to hold talks over a potential £5.2m deal to sign Bastien on a permanent basis this summer, with the deal also likely to include several performance-related add ons.

There’s still a long way to go before any transfer is agreed so we’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool are able to win the race for the teenagers signature ahead of the competition.

However, if they are successful then Bastien would become Jurgen Klopp’s second major signing lined-up for the summer with a deal already in place to sign defender Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke.

Bastien is predominantly a central midfielder who’s known for his eye for a pass and good engine, and while I’m sure he wouldn’t make any immediate impact on the Liverpool first team, he is certainly one for the future so would be an exciting addition to the squad if the Merseysiders can get a deal agreed.
