Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost with the news that Jack Wilshere is set to resume full first team training and could make his long-awaited playing comeback with the under-21’s next week, according to the Daily Mail.

Wilshere has endured yet another injury-plagued campaign as the England international hasn’t featured for the first team yet this season after fracturing his fibula in training at the start of August.

Several proposed comebacks have been delayed due to a number of setbacks in recent months leading to question marks over whether Wilshere would play any competitive football at all this season.

However, it looks as though the 24-year-old is finally closing-in on his return to action with the Daily Mail reporting today that Wilshere is set to resume full training within the next few days and is well on course to playing a part in our title run-in.

The newspaper says that the midfielder reacted well after stepping-up his rehabilitation programme this week and is poised to make his playing return with an appearance for the under-21’s against Newcastle United next Friday.

As long as he doesn’t suffer any further setbacks, Jack could then be in-line to make his long-awaited first team comeback, although Arsene Wenger is expected to be cautious with the midfielder due to his injury record.

The boss could therefore give Wilshere another run-out with the under-21’s before considering him for our Premier League clash with West Brom on the 21st April. If that game still comes too soon, Jack could be in contention for the trip to Sunderland on the 24th.

Wilshere’s return will come as a major boost as Wenger has seen his midfield options decimated this season with Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey also currently on the sidelines through injury.

News of Jack’s impending return will also be welcomed by England boss Roy Hodgson, who is keen for the midfielder to prove his fitness ahead of this summers European Championships.
