Wenger Eyes £35m Star As Arsenal Boss Plans £75m Summer Splurge

Arsene Wenger has made a £35m-rated midfielder is prime transfer target as the Arsenal boss gets set to spend up to £75m on new players this summer.

Arsene Wenger has made Granit Xhaka is prime midfield transfer target as the Arsenal boss gets set to spend up to £75m on new players this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Wenger has rightly been criticised for his lack of activity in recent transfer windows with Mohamed Elneny and Petr Cech our only significant new additions to the first team this season.

However, the Telegraph claim that Wenger is finally ready to splash some cash this summer after being handed a transfer kitty of around £75m and while he’s on the look out for another defender, the boss’s main priority is to reshape his midfield.

With Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini all set to leave in June, we’re certainly going to need to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park and the newspaper says that Granit Xhaka has become Wenger’s number one target.

The 23-year-old has developed in to one of the most promising midfielders in the Bundesliga after putting in some excellent performances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season and he’s been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months.

It looks like the boss is ready to make his move after sending head scout Steve Rowley to watch Xhaka this season but the Telegraph suggest it will take a club record fee of £35m to persuade Gladbach to cash-in, so Wenger better be prepared to dig deep this summer.

In addition to signing Xhaka, the report states that Arsene also plans to promote Gedion Zelalem to the first team next season after watching the 19-year-old midfielder impress during his loan spell at Glasgow Rangers this campaign.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop with Xhaka but no doubt the big stumbling block will be price and it remains to be seen as to whether Wenger will be prepared to match Gladbach’s reported £35m asking price.

However, if we could get a deal agreed for the Swiss international, we’d have have plenty of depth in midfield next season with Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Zelalem all vying for spots in Wenger’s two-man central midfield.
