Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting & Prediction
Liverpool take on Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League tonight. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, betting tips and prediction for the game
Liverpool will be looking to bring home a positive result when they take on Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final clash this evening.
The Reds progressed to the last eight after beating Premier League rivals Manchester United 3-1 on aggregate in the previous round but now face a stern test against Borussia Dortmund if they want to remain in the competition.
Obviously Jurgen Klopp knows the opposition well as he’ll take on his former club for the first time since leaving the Westfalenstadion at the end of the 2014/15 season after a hugely successful stint at the German giants.
Klopp won two Bundesliga titles and reached the 2013 Champions League final during his time with Dortmund so he should expect to receive a warm welcome from the home crowd this evening.
However, the Liverpool boss insists there is no time for sentimentality tonight as he looks to come away with a positive result ahead of next week’s second leg at Anfield.
Dortmund proved how dangerous they are after thrashing title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter finals so Klopp knows his side are going to have to be on top form if they want to take anything back to Merseyside.
Liverpool have been handed a major boost ahead of the game with forward Roberto Firmino coming through a training session yesterday unscathed after recovering from a hamstring injury that he suffered against United in the previous round.
Daniel Sturridge is fit and available for selection but the press seem to think that Klopp is going to start Divock Origi up front tonight as he wants the Belgian’s pace and power on the counter-attack.
Christian Benteke remains out with a hamstring injury while Lucas Leiva is also unavailable for selection due to a thigh problem.
As for Dortmund, they’ve been handed a triple injury boost with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels all returning to training earlier this week but centre-back Neven Subotic is out for the rest of the season.
Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Liverpool: The Reds have a decent record against German opposition in Europe and Klopp should know the Dortmund team inside out, but I still think this is going to be a very difficult game for the Merseysiders. I don’t see Liverpool stopping Dortmund from getting on the score-sheet but am backing the visitors to score what could prove to be a vital away goal.
Dortmund are the 8/13 favourites to win this game but Football-Talk can get you enhanced odds of 4/1 on a home win or a staggering 20/1 on a Liverpool win – just click here to take advantage of this limited time offer. My prediction of 2-1 is available at odds of 17/2 while I also like the look of Aubameyang to open the scoring at 10/3. If you combined those two bets in a score-cast then we get very tempting odds of 16/1.
What do you think? What line-up would you like to see start?
