Liverpool have taken control of their Europa League quarter final after drawing 1-1 with Borussia Dortmund in the first leg at the Westfalenstadion tonight.

The Reds opened the scoring shortly before half-time when Divock Origi justified his selection ahead of Daniel Sturridge after out-muscling Sven Bender before firing low into the bottom corner for 1-0 in the 36th minute.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into half-time ahead but the hosts levelled things up within minutes of the restart as Mats Hummels headed home Henrik Mkhitaryan’s cross from close range in the 48th minute to make it 1-1.

Liverpool continued to work hard throughout the second half and frustrated Dortmund as they pushed for a winner but the Premier League side held on to secure a crucial 1-1 draw which will make them the slight favourites heading in to the second leg at Anfield next week.
